The upcoming solar eclipse is an exciting event – but I cannot help but worry about my horses and outdoor pets. Is that silly? Should I be concerned?
I can keep my house dogs in the house, I will just shut the dog door.
I think Gertie Goose is nearly blind already, so no worries for her. I think Flip Flop Kitty will be OK.
But what about my red mares? I know they are little stinkers, but they are my little stinkers and I love them.
Do animals panic during an eclipse? It only lasts a couple of minutes.

I was very concerned about that – but several horse people have assured me that I am worrying needlessly. My veterinarian said my mares may get a little nervous or the event may pass unnoticed- but he assured me there is no need to worry. Phew!

I was just thinking about this and where I live in Ontario it will not be a full eclipse. Nonetheless I am going to bring my horse into his stall before the event. I’m probably over reacting but I can understand your concern.
